Thing is, the US can EASILY strike any target in Afghanistan from any number of bases in the region. Boots on the ground are not needed.

@ripsumrall8018 Oh, I'm not saying it's a good solution. I'm just saying that sending more troops in isn't something the US needs to do. They don't need to go in for another 20 years and accomplish nothing. They can accomplish nothing with some bombs instead. Just as many innocents will get slaughtered either way. It's not like using soldiers instead of bombs prevents the US from murdering countless innocents.

This was an attack by ISK. Who are a splinter group from the Taliban, who have clashed with the Taliban many times. Except they are a tiny fraction of the size. Less than a thousand of them apparently. They're striking at the US before they leave because they want to try and show themselves to be relevant. They want some press coverage before they lose their chance. They're hoping that these attacks will get the Taliban to let them in to the new government. They'd be a tiny group, like the Green Party or Libertarians in the US, with absolutely no influence or power. But simply being recognized would do wonders for their recruitment. If the US was to go back in, set up a base ANYWHERE, it would INSTANTLY become a lightning rod for every faction in the country (and neighboring ones). The US would see attacks on an unprecedented scale as all these small groups would attack them to show that they're a threat that should get media attention. If the US just pulls out as planned, all these little groups will likely just get crushed by the Taliban as they consolidate their power over the country. And of course, there's idiots out there saying the US should arm some of these small groups so that they can fight against the Taliban. Which is stupid beyond words. That's literally how the Taliban was created in the first place. When Russia was in the country, the US was pushing religious fundamentalism on small groups, giving them weapons, and pointing them at the Russian "infidels". And the US was happy when Russia left... at which point those terrorist groups unified and formed the Taliban, and started targeting US allies and forces and other nations. Because they were fully swept up in their insane fundamentalist hypocrisy. If the US starts aiding these small groups, all they'll do is create a bigger, badder version of the Taliban, which will yet again target America. The US needs to leave and STAY GONE.

@ripsumrall8018 I'm saying no matter what the US does, they will end up slaughtering innocent bystanders. They ALWAYS do. But if they ARE going to do it, do it from a distance. Putting more troops in and setting up a new base will only be a lightning rod for endless attacks from even MORE groups. Which will just end up escalating things endlessly until the US has tens of thousands of troops in there and everything's back to where it started.

@ripsumrall8018 Oh, that's valid. I mean, I don't see the US doing nothing, because pointless posturing that causes untold death and suffering is a staple of the US military. But it would be nice to see Biden not slaughter innocents for no reason. Doesn't seem likely though, as he seems PISSED.
