  3. I see some gun enthusiasts complain that they wouldn't be able to enjoy a nice gun collection in Canada. That's false. You CAN legally own pretty much any gun in Canada. You simply have to go through a very rigorous process to get certified to own a weapon, prove you can keep it locked up safe and secure, have proper insurance, etc... I've got a friend out in London, Ontario, who has a MASSIVE collection of guns (over 200, easily). He's in farm country, so his place is huge, and his basement is basically a gun museum, holding things from flintlocks to the latest XM5 and XM250. From pistols to shotguns to rifles, he's got everything. They're also all securely locked away on display behind a security system that would make most banks blush. Just trying to enter his gun room without entering the correct code sends a call to the local police. Canada isn't opposed to people OWNING guns. But it has strict laws and regulations to make sure people are USING them except in approved situations. There's laws about how guns have to be stored, how ammo has to be locked up separately, how some weapons must have firing pins removed, etc... If he wants to go hunting, he's got some rifles for that, locked up in a different room (because they're not there for his collection, but practical use). Ammo is locked away in ANOTHER room. He's got locked carrying cases that he needs to transport the guns in until he's at a designated hunting area. Sensible gun laws are easy.

  4. Exactly. You see a problem happening somewhere, so you proactively respond to the situation. If you see a storm coming, you shore up the windows BEFORE it hits you. You don't wait until it hits and then respond.

But if someone can prove they would be a responsible gun owner, they can have one. There's a reason mass shootings on a DAILY basis ONLY happens in America. Also, owning a car IS NOT A RIGHT. It's a privilege. One that you have to EARN by getting trained to drive, earning a license, registering and insuring your car and following the rules of the road. A privilege that can be REVOKED if you violate any of that.

  8. No. They have the option of selling their guns to the government. Which has been a thing with ALL guns for years. And even with the gun bans, you can still own pretty much any gun in Canada. You simply have to go through a lot of red tape for it. Get trained and licensed, and prove you can store them safely where they can't be used, etc. For some weapons, you will be required to cripple them by removing the firing pin. So you can have a huge collection. You just can't murder people with them.

  9. As a Canadian gun owner, you still get to keep your guns. Even ones that aren't supposed to be sold. As long as you go through all the government red tape to approve your ownership. I've got a friend in London who's got a massive collection. Many weapons that you're not supposed to have. But he's gone through the steps to get approval for his collection. The "banned" guns all have their firing pins removed. Every gun is locked up in secure display cases. His gun room has an alarm on the door that goes right to the local police. I mean, he's even got the new XM5 and such that the US has just recently made available. Every gun registered, licensed, insured, etc. These laws don't stop gun enthusiasts from having collections. And my friend goes hunting, so he has a bunch of regular hunting rifles (all securely locked away with ammo locked up in a different room). It simply stops random lunatics from running around armed. But yes, the idea that guns will defend you is idiotic. Most people shot in their home are done so by accidental discharge, or by a burglar breaking in and shooting them with their own gun. And guns will in absolutely no way "protect against tyranny". You have a gun, the government has tanks and jets and drones that can take you out before you know what's going on.

Yes, the government can and WILL take away your car for breaking the law, not being registered, not being licensed, etc. Which is the point. The Canadian government is banning the sale of guns. They're not "taking away" anyone's guns. The US government isn't even implementing background checks. So any racist abuser can go out and buy a gun without issue.

You simply have to go through all the government hoops to prove that you can be responsible with it and keep it under lock and key. I've got a friend with a collection of well over 200 guns, from flintlocks to the new XM5's that just came out. All locked away in display cases. Any "banned" guns have their firing pins removed (because you have absolutely no need to ever fire them). He's also got a locked case of hunting rifles for when he goes hunting.   20. I don't mind people owning guns. As long as they're properly secured and respected. I know people with gun collections. Those guns are for display only. They're all under lock and key (with any "banned" weapons having firing pins removed). If you want some object for a collection, fine. It's the people who think the bigger their gun, the bigger their penis that is the problem. Those who think that violence is the solution to every problem.

  24. In Canada, if you have any record of abuse, you're banned from owning a gun. Various mental conditions (including trauma from being abused) also bans you. Having racist or hate filled rhetoric in your social media, ban. It's almost like that's the most sensible thing that could be done and has literally been a thing forever.

Prove you are trained and licensed, can be responsible, go through vigorous background checks, have everything registered and insured. All weapons have to be kept locked up, with any ammo locked up separately. For some outright banned weapons, you'll need to ensure the firing pins are removed so they can't actually be used. But you can still own guns. But beyond hunting rifles, there's not really any need for a gun beyond a collection.
