  1. If things were built like they were in the good old days, you couldn't afford them today. Levi's have been over priced for years and long before you bought your blue pair I was noticing Levi's are not what they once were. A lot of American products once competed against Chinese goods but because the Chinese goods were cheaper consumers bought those products. The American stuff faded away. China now competes with other Asian makers plus Chinese companies compete against other Chinese companies and they all know lowest price gets the sale. Unless Americans get dramatically lower wages there is no way American companies can compete let alone make products at higher quality. And the Chinese makers minimize quality and durability to grab a sale before the other Chinese/Korean/Japanese guy can. It is not so much capitalism as it is human nature. There are niche products made in the U.S. that do offer quality but at a cost far higher than the average consumer is willing to pay.
