The insurance companies that left the home insurance market in California were the smart ones. The ones that stay are going to get screwed.

Unions can not stop that, they can't even slow it down. Shawn Fain of the UAW during the strike said a lot of words he is now looking at eating.
11
The Chinese move in, kiss all that goodbye.
6
You're a bit off. EV's are not selling that well, dealers are reporting sticker shock on new production anything. The auto companies gave out warnings. UAW head Shawn Fain laughed. Now his membership isn't laughing with him anymore.
5
A lot of policies do not cover wind or water damage. If your house got leveled by either, there is nothing left to insure.
5
You blew it this time Orlando. He was saying there are not enough STEM educated Americans in the U.S. to hire. This has been said many times before. Tesla is a worldwide company and they need people in several countries.
3
Many fields do not require a Phd to be good in them. The U.S. has fallen behind in STEM and China and India produce a surplus of STEM graduates.

The Chinese are working to produce aircraft to compete with Boeing and Airbus. I suspect Boeing will be closing their Seattle operations and start farming out work to other lower wage countries. As anyone in business knows, most customers are not loyal. Something Orlando never discusses.
2
I hope Orlando never has to lay anyone off otherwise he's going to get flayed alive on here. Actually GM see's the writing on the wall and that writing says BYD (and other Chinese automakers) are coming and they are cheap. Cheap enough to run circles around American automakers. Then the blood letting will begin. BYD produces a low cost EV that can sell for $10-12,000 and no domestic auto company can beat that. Goodbye UAW.

Raise your home 5 feet and rest it on a poured concrete foundation. Use a single layer roof coating so strong winds can not reach under and pull off shingles.

@jermainemyrn19 Capitalism works fine and it's many variations for 1,000's of years despite some bad players. Politicians on the other hand... for instance, when was the last time a Democrat asked about their study of business and economics? Most come from the legal field (totally clueless about economics) or government. One might ask, did the Republicans fully understand the negative effects of free trade?
2
There is a cluelessness to unions that amaze me. Boeing has competition, the Chinese will be entering the fray with price advantages and Boeings will become a harder sell.
2
In business, what goes up can go down. Call it thousand's of years of experience.
2
Companies aren't loyal but neither are customers, the people they have to sell to.
2
I think there is some flex in the PA system. If the local Amazon center has a bad reputation that could work in your favor.
2
Orlando, you seem desperate for an argument, some kind of argument for today.
2
Government policies are no bargain.

The Chinese are introducing their first commercial passenger aircraft, C919. If this model proves itself out, it is nicely priced and will rack up some nice sales. Boeing should take a lesson on how China nailed the high speed train market. They intend to do the same with aircraft. Boeing better get it's act together and start the the process of reducing expenses. The Chinese are not only far cheaper, they have financing plans you just can't refuse.

Production line work has always been like this. Amazon isn't doing anything new.
1
"they just want you to work harder for the same wage..." It's been like that since they built the pyramids. Amazon makes little money on it's retail website. I should say they make a lot of money on their retail website, but make only a relatively small profit. Yeah, it's true.

Closing stores is a great way to end rampant consumerism that the social justice types complain about. The next dumbest thing is going on strike when the economy is going into a slowdown.
1
Don't discount the politicians.
1
@joefer5360 You had mayhem and slaughter under Socialism. I was expecting a more sophisticated response. You were quite the let down.
1
Sounds like they were hoping for a Christmas miracle but their money ran out first.
1
They have layoffs due to model changes.
1
If you do not perform, they fire you. You collect nothing when they fire you.

If you are a unionized worker, you are on contract to work at Pepsi. In a sense you work for the union, not the company and many cases the union provides your benefits (think of the infamous Teamsters retirement plan). More than likely Pepsi did a study to see if the plant was worth updating and modernizing and didn't find it cost effective. They are also reducing workers by closure at 3 other plants. PepsiCo is not having great days. The company stated the markets they serve are subdued, a bit unusual for what was once a growth company.

If deflation kicks in things can be worse because falling prices can be a sign of steep recession or depression. Maybe it's time to go back on the gold standard as a way of controlling inflation but no politician will like that. Listening to Kris Kringle Kamala and her ideas on programs and policies I could see inflation pricing go right up again (as she plans to spend plenty). I wish I could see a breakdown on the data companies use to determine prices. A lot of accusations are made but I'd like to see the numbers behind it all.

If her payments were $75 a month...

The economy is slowing down.

I'll wait for the OrlandoCoin.

Striking at Christmas is how unions lost their support from the public. Unions never learn, Amazon's customers are also their customers.
1
When you make $150,000 a year, you are going to be working for it. Anywhere you work.
1
I think some companies are laying off people just so they can get a mention from Orlando.
1
When your contract ends, you are no longer an employee. The fun has yet to begin. China is now testing an aircraft that will compete with Boeing and Airbus. It's a safe bet they'll come in cheaper than Boeing or Airbus. And with all the money China has handed out to all these smaller countries... it's a safe bet many will be customers of Chinese made aircraft.

In bankruptcy property taxes still have to be paid. In some cases you may get a lien but that must be paid before any other property tax is paid.

Amazon webstore is a money loser. Amazon makes it's money on web services. They could close the store operation and live well of the web services they supply.
