  1. How much profit railroads made is immaterial to the issues of time off. Railroad work has always been irregular, you work when there is carriage to be done and when there is demand for service. Many times shipments are time sensitive. That said I think the rail lines could grant 4 days a month personal time scheduled to the satisfaction of both parties.
