  4.  @azeclecticdog  Chiang Kai-Shek was a sort of Communist and was supported by Josef Stalin. For quite some time Stalin thought Mao was just sort of second rate. Taiwan is a democracy while mainland China is a totalitarian state. I guess being a puppet worked out well for Taiwan. Ask Hong Kong if you need a second opinion on the subject.
