The wealth tax is one of the dumbest forms of taxation you can devise. Briahna continually proves when it comes to economics lawyers are completely clueless.

@mjkittredge People who own property already pay tax on it. They also pay a gains tax on it if they sell the property for more than they paid for it. And you pay tax on stock if you have any gains when you sell it. You also pay tax if you get dividends from stock. I doubt you own neither real estate or stocks or you would know about this.

@mjkittredge You can own a million dollar house but it's not worth anything until you sell it. Then is the time the value is actually set. The market can drop and you end up selling it for $10.00 because that is the only good offer you can get. And what you paid for it no longer matters. Or, if you pay wealth tax on the house valued at $1,000,000 but the following year you sell it for $10.00. Do you get a refund because the actual value had dropped? A good basic rule of thumb regarding economics: *If Briahna is for it, you should be against it*.

@mjkittredge "just because it's not liquid doesn't mean it isn't a form of wealth". Following that I could say you own a bag of rocks and I can say I think they are worth a million dollars and you should pay a tax on that value. More so if you bought the bag of rocks for 1 million dollars. It doesn't matter you tried to sell your bag of rocks on Ebay for $1,000,000 but you only got a bid for 10 cents. I think they are worth $1,000,000 and you have to pay a wealth tax on that amount. You do not want Bill Gates to buy a 100 homes? Okay, you pass a law, you can not buy a 100 homes, problem solved. Income tax is based on a settled amount that can be verified. A wealth tax is based on assumptions and can easily be challenged. And that is what happens, endless arguing on the valuation of things based on values that can change day to day. Twice the work for probably not a whole lot of money.

@mjkittredge You don't pay more. You have clearly shown you have no understanding of the tax system. Jeff Bezos paid over $970,000,000 in personal incomes taxes from 2014-2018. So you are saying you paid more than him?

@mjkittredge He hoards it? He kept 970,000,000 in his mattress? Is that what you are trying to tell me? And your contribution to the world is? $5 maybe?
