The federal or state government should build the housing and then keep it public, not allowing the private market to get it's hands on it.

@RBMastersinc Or it could be $1600/month for a one bedroom or studio apartment have become beyond the reach of many people. Not every person that is homeless is a drug addict.

@BlackBinderGames Not every homeless person is a drug addict or a mental case. Some simply can not afford ever increasing rents. For those who get destructive... there is eviction. Even if you make $15/hr, after taxes you are barely covering the rent. You then work a second job to buy food and pay the electric bill.

California's public housing is loaded with politics and even the best intentioned programs get mangled by personal interests. Occasionally, almost by accident the public interest does get served every now and then. Free market housing has become a game for the moneyed interests.

Not just about zoning, landlords do not care because they feel the market will bear any cost.

@BlackBinderGames Better than no housing or unaffordable under the private market. Public housing does require strict regulation but they manage it in Europe. Like it or not, the homeless do not make for a stable society.
