I was watching an interview about homeless in California. To build anything for the homeless you have to go through a swamp of politicians then make sure the highest bidder wins any contract.

The federal government has to get back into public housing. The private market can no longer provide affordable housing. And you need to enforce immigration law along with increasing deportations. There is no sense building new housing then allow outsiders to flood in and take up space in an already tight housing market.

Not every homeless person is a drug addict. They just can't earn enough to cover ever increasing rents.

@willis7404 Building public housing complexes require a lot of preplanning so the sooner you get started, the better. Shelters can be put up or repaired relatively quickly.

Drug addicts are more romantic than just normal people who can't earn enough to pay ever increasing rents.

@Born2BFly I have family out there and while I haven't seen them in a while I remember California (LA area) being pretty neat and tidy. I better never go back.

Yes, that is the if a piece of land is at least 6 square inches you can build a 2-3 story house on it law. That bill looks like a nightmare. For all practical purposes the new bill zeros out zoning laws for residential neighborhoods.

@willis7404 Cheaper housing has a longer implementation time. So you have the homeless because of addictions and then you will be piling on more homeless due to economic circumstances. Projected eviction rates are estimated to go quite high by the end of this year. The county I live in did have a modest emergency fund for people who are evicted because of economic circumstances but it has run out of funds as the rate of need has gone up dramatically this year. I am not ignoring your concerns about shelters but it seems people on the lower end of the earnings scale are having problems in a big way the last few years.
