I like to remind South Americans if they do not like the term Americans applied to the citizens of the U.S., I remind them the United States of America was a country surrounded by colonies and it is in the name of the country.

@teynaranjas788 To be honest this is not a real issue, something just cooked up. Sort of like Indians insisting they are Asian. So what? Being called Indian clearly defines who you are. Using Asian just lumps you into a larger group that has no real identity outside of a geographic location. If you are Peruvian, that clearly defines you. A bunch of different Americans would just blur people while serving no clear purpose. The U.S. used the name first and that is about that. Anyway, many times in conversation will define people from a grouping of nations as South American. So, South Americans still get some action from the American name. Same for Central Americans.

Briahna should tell Asians to stop using the term Oriental. Maybe Karen became harmful when the Black man who accused the woman of reporting him to the police turned out to be a Karen himself.
