  2. Wobbly Robby: The railroads run on land they own, and on right of way they pay for from their own revenues. They do not get money from the government to fix their tracks.

  3.  @aaronhrynyk  When the government heavily regulated railroads they had to get subsidies. Once they became unregulated they started paying their own way. A few good years help balance out the years they go through where the economy is slow.
