  1. Your friends were starting from a lower baseline. If income went from $1.00 an hour to $2.00 hour in China that would be a vast improvement. Where in the United States a worker earning a wage that was capped by cheap imports from China for years would see a decline. Those cheap bargains from China cost the United States a fortune.
