I used to work for a major defense contractor years ago. A lot of the contracts the company worked on was using advanced technology, very cutting edge for it's time. Producing weaponry using new technology was very costly as it not only required device development, but the ability to use such items to their maximum ability. Many designs were constantly changed and upgraded which added to the cost. Pioneering advanced technology doesn't come cheap, but it can save lives and give our military an important edge.

@scottmcloughlin4371 There was only one problem dealing with the Taliban. We didn't shoot every one in sight. If you go to war, you war to win, not reform societies, not to be nice. I was listening to a news story about China's (defacto) nationalized semi-conductor manufacturers. Corruption set in and billion$ wasted. And when you have a huge number of employees on the state payroll you have to push them to bring home the bacon. You gleefully sell deadly weapons to help fund free dental care at home. Sorry kid your village was razed by our most deadly weapons, but our kids back home needed braces.
