  1. We tried to avoid war with Japan back in the early 1940's. How did that work out for the U.S.? Getting involved with Mideast issues is a dead end proposition and a waste. Blocking Russia is never a waste. The economic issues alone could be massive but Russia has already made it clear if they are in a mood to attack a country, they will attack.
