  1. If there were no large land holders it doesn't follow that prices would be lower. Pricing to some degree is dictated by demand and you can not get top dollar on lower demand goods and services. Rents to a degree are also affected by property taxes, insurance costs, and upkeep costs. The put upon 99% votes for more government programs, the increased costs are going to be reflected in property taxes which will be reflected in rents. Briahna as always take the simple road to complex issues because it plays upon the emotions. The government could go back into public housing and base rents on a stated percentage of income. Private organizations such as charities could do the same. By buying the land and owning the building this part of housing could be permanently taken off the market and won't be affected by the swings of the real estate market. Granted, what I just said will not be as exciting as Briahna's class warfare rants but it is a solution.
