Briahna, the brakes did not overheat, there was a bearing failure, a completely different part. Does Briahna have concrete proof stock buy backs cause train derailments? If she has a secret cache of evidence, I wish she would share it with the rest of us. As for Robbie...

@rogermosberger6856 If the bearing doesn't fail first. Most railroad freight cars have at least 8 of these bearings and there are 100,000's of the cars in daily service. Bearing failure is fairly rare but can happen. If railroads were trying to cut corners so much, bearings maybe a good place to start. Railroads pay more for roller bearings because they a dependable, long service, safe and reduce friction.

@teynaranjas788 People are screaming before any investigation is complete. Briahna has no idea what she is talking about and since she is supposed to be (supposed to be) a lawyer, you would think she would wait for the investigation, read the results, try to understand the results before getting on her socialist soap box. She demeans herself every time she does it. Keep in mind Norfolk Sothern has to pay dearly for every accident that occurs on their rail lines. Cleaning up even a small wreck is fairly expensive. And from what I have seen most of the accidents that have occurred did not come from low investment on their rail line. If anything the lines look to be in good shape.

@teynaranjas788 "and the statistics of derailments since the implementation of PSR bear this out. " Wrong

@teynaranjas788 Over the decades derailments have been declining. You might have small bump ups in the numbers from year to year. There are other issues to look at like the composition of the train, do empty cars put in the middle of long trains cause problems? I used to watch trains pass by and found it curious in a middle of a train you would see empty flat cars surrounded by far larger heavier cars. Do these flat cars lift off the tracks? Norfolk Southern has issued some changes in operation like engines are to be distributed in longer trains and trains are now limited to 10,000 feet. I do feel trains have gotten excessively long so this is a good change. But ranting about stock buy backs are meaningless. Nice socialist claptrap but even short, slow running trains can derail for a variety of reasons.

Norfolk Southern just released a notice they had found cars from a producer in Canada had wheelsets that were defective. The wheels can slip on their axles and go out of gauge. It has been recommended the wheelsets on the cars from a certain production period be replaced nation wide. This is a rare defect. Visual inspections may not have caught it and stock buy backs do not cause it.

Other countries have derailments.

The idea is not to burn yourself down in the process.
