Bitcoin is useless but buying gold can work against you if a central bank decides to sell off gold. Gold itself is sort of useless unless coinage is put in general circulation or gold backed currency is created. The primary value of gold is in jewelry or electronics. If not used gold has no more value than Bitcoin. Therefore, the value of gold will act more like Bitcoin as the price of gold goes higher.
