I used to talk to people who had to live under that dreamy Socialist state called Communism. Look at Cuba, where people were trying to swim to Florida to escape the country. They weren't doing it as a try out for the Olympics.

Cuba would have been far better off without Communism. The country did have a growing economy before Castro. Cuba and the United States and their relationship developed as it did because of Castro's oversized ego. The U.S. was talking to Cuba but Castro doubled dealed the U.S.

On a merit based system a certain race does not perform well, so DEI became the answer. Asians for instance do too well and the DEI types needed to put a stop to that. DEI like EEOC are designed to make sure a 5'4" man gets on the basketball team. Sort of like dropping the net 2 feet so the short guy can get some baskets.

After the Reagan "tax cuts to the rich" revenue to the federal government increased and few programs were cut. Employment zoomed and wages rose. As for AIDS, programs were funded and gays fought research into the HIV because they felt that would expose what they did behind closed doors. It was covered by the news at that time. Lawyers are not your best source of information, more so on economic matters. It is clear this woman i s reading from biased left wing websites.

@herisuryadi6885 Depends on how you look at it. Younger people did well while older stalled. Looking at wage growth you see the Reagan era was the start of a cycle of wage growth that lasted for 20 years. Reagan super charged the old economy while very late in the Bush 1 term you saw the rise of the new economy which continued under Clinton.

@shacktime Impossible for 300 million people to self rule. You must set up a government. Then the government forgets it's purpose and looks at every citizen as a nail that needs to be hammered down. Socialism in order to work must have submission of the people. You can't have free market types running around making money or preaching individuality as that would cause major friction. So, a Socialist government in the United States will soon realize there are 300 million+ nails that need hammering. There are no functional Socialist societies under any nam be it Socialist, Communist or Fascist. It's because Socialism doesn't work.

Castros would fly in the best doctors, but never heard of it being done for Mr and Mrs On ration coupons. Cuba just had to settle accounts with the U.S.

@rednemesis88 Thank the Castros. By the way, the United States has exemptions for products like medicines. If they can't get a medicine they need, it could be due to the Cuban government.

The world had soon changed after FDR's death. He looked good during what was a government created Depression (in which he had a hand). Reagan was dealing with those changes.

Someone should tell this woman KGB records showed the Rosenbergs were in league with the Soviet Union. Read that as the Rosenbergers worked for Josef Stalin, a man who was worse than Adolf Hitler. Yea, Stalin was that bad.
