  1. Ukraine for centuries was more connected to Europe than it was to Russia. Ukraine was invaded by Russia and forced into the Russian Empire. Left to it's own devices, Ukraine would rather be connected to Europe than to be under the heavy hand of Russia. Taiwan/The KMT were the allies of the United States during World War 2. The Communists of China never were.
