@r9sog In 2001 Wenzhou, China where 43 people died and 210 injured. What made the story more interesting is what the government did cleaning up the wreck. There have been other accidents sometimes involving deaths of riders. Deutsche Bahn is German government owned. There was a plan to sell part ownership to private parties but there was no follow through.

The train accident was caused by a failed wheel bearing, not corporations controlling a country. Countries like Germany, France and Poland have quite a few rail accidents and their railroads are owned by the state.

You burn the chemicals as the most efficient way of removing them from the environment. The railroad company will be picking up the cost of the accident and clean up.

@chrislee5685 I answered the question put to me and China was one of the answers. The cause of the E.Palestine accident was a hot box. A hot box can occur at anytime and usually can not be seen until until the wheel bearing in the box starts smoking. By the way the Chinese railways use the same device on their railcars. The chemicals were set on fire as one of the rail tanks cars appeared ready to explode. Burning off the chemicals leaves less behind to get into the local environment. The cause of the accident was published once it was known. Many journalists have no idea about how rail cars are made or what can go wrong with them. A hot box would be beyond them.

@chrislee5685 I was asked for a similar accident in China. I gave R9 Studies one. All railroad lines have accidents of one kind or another and most will not be in the news. The accident in Ohio has been reported on by several U.S. sources. Some news organizations will cover a story more or better than others. As for burning the chemicals, time will show whether the approach used was wise or not.

@chrislee5685 From R9 Studies: "And, while we're at it, please direct me to any similar accidents in China"

@chrislee5685 I just pointed out the failure that caused the derailment and that state owned railroads also have derailments. R9 asked the question. Start from my first post and read down.
