In the U.S. all offices are direct vote except for president. This was done to avoid geographic power blocks where a few high density populations can control the out come. It's very rare when the popular vote doesn't match the winner of the presidential election. Local elections are nice but the real prize and power resides in the national government, mainly in those who control the military and the money.

@dongiovanni8899 In the U.S., criminal acts are dealt with and the offender is removed from office relatively quickly. As for underperforming, by design the U.S. national system is to move slowly, the founders thinking that the emotions of the moment should be held in check. Each step of the law making process is them asking: Do you really want to do this?

@jook360 Impeachment is a trial, not a verdict. I was hoping Trump was going to go for three :) The impeachments were a Democratic Party roadshow and was meant to get the party's members excited for the then upcoming election.

@Cobalt-88 The government that is big enough to give you everything is big enough to take away everything from you. There are a variety of causes for the problems the U.S. has and one of them is Globalists.
