  3. Free trade worked in the late 1700 and early 1800's because of the lack of competition. Times have changed and international competition is at the point where you have race to the bottom pricing on many products because of heavy duplication. China should have used some of it's pricing advantage to put into place an export tax, using those revenues to improve social services, pay off government debt, improve worker's wages, etc. The experts there should have known the patterns of trade over time and adjusted the economic policy.
