  1. I occasional watch a channel done by a fellow that works on cars, including many European models. The catch words for many German cars now are expensive repairs for even simple problems. Flimsy parts in the most difficult to reach areas.

  2. If the Chinese car companies enter the U.S., the U.S. automakers will have to do severe cost cutting. The UAW will have to get used to hearing the word givebacks. Or they will become ex-autoworkers.

  3. If you are going to compete with China, you will have to reduce costs to Chinese levels. Wage reductions will be a part of that. The whole societal structure will have to see cost reductions.

  4.  @Pestbringer89  Shareholders expect to get paid and they have that right. Both European and American auto companies have too much in overhead costs.

  5.  @duncan8437  Doesn't matter who is alive or not. Even if Volkswagen didn't have 1 shareholder, it wouldn't save them from what they are facing now. If you decide to trade with China, you will end up paying them in cash and jobs.
