  3. Hey David. This is what's known as a regional / cultural colloquialism. In far left areas of the country, some people use terms like people of color, BIPOC, etc. It's not bizarre.

Someone raised in San Francisco who has no connection to Southern culture might see the flag as "racist" while someone raised on the South who doesn't have a racist bone in their body will view the flag as heritage.
