@tavenstrickert9658 Oh I believe that whether you agree with him or not, DeSantis would be a stronger candidate for the GOP in 2024. He doesn't have the same baggage Trump has and isn't as scatter-brained, childish and petty. He's more level-headed and calculating. But yeah, I feel like everyone is currently forced into a two party system and the pressure is there to dig in and pick a side. Social Media puts that on steroids. Not just social media but also Legacy Media. The news is not neutral any longer. The days of Walter Cronkite are long gone and it's all advocacy journalism on both sides. That functions as cans of gas being thrown on a roaring fire and it's not good at all, but it's what gets the ratings so I don't see that ending anytime soon.
In terms of gun reform, that's a complex issue. You could go after certain types of weapons but that will create a political firestorm. I also feel like background checks aren't helping solve the problem all that much. Many people pass background checks, buy guns legally and go on to create carnage. My solution would be to get draconian on all crimes involving guns. I'm talking about really really harsh penalties for all crimes involving them. As for law enforcement, there are certainly bad apples. However, I live in a city that is notorious for crime and gets the lion's share of media attention when it comes to that. I've lost all faith in the Democratic leadership who seem to let hardened criminals terrorize and victimize with impunity. Much of that has to do with Kim Foxx and the DA's office. I personally want violent criminals locked up and non-violent "criminals" to be treated less harshly. I.e. drugs.
I'm fully aware that the political spectrum and scale is further to the right than most European countries. Additionally, I agree that we don't need to involve ourselves in foreign wars, try to "spread democracy" to regions of the world that still think and act like we're in the dark ages nor should we be feeding the yuuuuuge Military Industrial Complex. That money can be used for the good here.
In any event, I do think Biden is quite a liability for the Dems now. I think it's beyond debate that his cognitive ability is in steep decline. It's kind of sad, but he is very old now. I'm betting he will certainly not be the Dem candidate in 2024.
