I had a pair of end snips -- what I called them -- that belonged to our great grandfather or perhaps grandfather or both. Blued, hardened steel. Both were surgeons, so maybe they had a different use than a typical pair of these. There was only an inside bevel. They sat flush to the surface if used to cut an extruding wire. They had finely etched or cut large cross-hatching on the curved handles, and were very comfortable to use. I could snip copper wire with them, but never considered cutting nails or screws. I used them to pry out nails and staples mostly. I treasure them.
