  1. Dodged a bullet there. It would have been demoralizing to lose this precious gem. Not sure why the roofs aren't salted nor have water spray nozzles in anticipation of possible embers, nor why wood used in fireplaces wouldn't be low pitch types, but fire safety isn't that difficult to accomplish. Intermediate cooling screens in chimneys seems a logical preventative measure. Who's in charge up there anyway?
