Speculation: Is their greatest fear the news of the accidental release of their lab created virus that made people drop dead after getting a cold, or any phase of sars-coV lead them to point at Sars-coV-2? A cohort armament virus may be on the loose, masked by this strain.

Obviously if the idea was to secrete a "clue", throwing it down there might alert people inside, and possibly it would drop out of sight if sloppily tossed down. Again, you dont know the whole story and no one else does either. So your certainty is just a closed head.
