  1. "browning of the nation"??? Is this a real expression? ~13% of the population are African American. ~11% are Hispanic. That's roughly 1 in 4. The rest of the population mostly came from Europe, of which ~45% of us have a fairly dark complexion with a bit of sunbathing (especially those descended from Mediterrean locales). I'd say that makes the majority of people in the US descendants of people with lots of melanin in their skins. (Not to mention that we all originally descended from Africa/Mesopotania).
