The last major infantry combat engagement the British Army fought was in the Falklands, & the bayonet was heavily used in clearing the opposition out of emplacement positions during night battle in the hills before Port Stanley. In that sort of clearing operation using close quarters melee fighting to dig the opponent out of defensive positions every weapon counts, & the sword is a life-saving option in the event of a firearm malfunction or sudden threat during a reload when in the close presence of the enemy.
