Interesting chat, but Halligan's extreme pro-foreign immigration views as expressed here are a very long way indeed from what increasing numbers of people in this country feel about this issue. His suggestion that even the hardest of Farage supporters love foreign mass migration into England, is flat out untrue to the point of being a bizarre statement. Also, citing causes of the monster bubble in property prices, but not mentioning the actions of the financial services sector which has turned residential property into ATM's since the 1980's by incessant mortgaging (i.e. facilitating massive amounts of easy access rampant debt) which in turn drives up prices as money is devalued, supported by government policies of money printing & 0% interest rates for a decade, whilst at the same time that same government deluges the country with 300,000 foreign immigrants every year to compete for housing stock with the natives, is odd as an argument too.

I don't want to disillusion people here but, for those who can't see it yet, Farage's primary aim now is to use the Brexit Party to get re-elected to the eu Parliament for another 5 years, for obvious motivational reasons. He's not the real deal, & hasn't been since 2014, & is now I fear a wolf in the fold inherently acting against England's interests. I don't like saying this, as he was an immense asset from 2010-2014, but he's not now to be trusted, & the hypocrisy in criticizing Batten for steering UKIP off away down a stupid path comes pretty ill from a man that did his best to wreck the same party by abandoning its captaincy at the moment of triumph, & sought to kill it off by lumbering it with a series of obvious inadequates at the helm, rather than have the vision, courage & patriotism to have gone for the Liblabcon political order, which was a wide open goal on 24 June 2016. As for the issue of the mass foreign immigration invasion that's ongoing (yeah O'Neill, I'm "against it" & my concern isn't restricted solely to the obscurantist point you raise of "democratic control of it" being the issue), Farage sold the pass on that in 2015 when he publicly stated that ethnicity was irrelevant, & moved to a sell out position of Integrationism, i.e. "let them all in, but a bit more slowly & brainwash them into being British" - which is utter, dangerous nonsense. Powell never sold out, regardless of a few-off sentences in an otherwise brilliant speech, & Farage is an intellectual pygmy compared to him.

Remove her, put Johnson in, cancel her sell out, withdraw from the eu, if it wants a free trade deal with the UK with no governmental strings attached agree it, if not WTO rules, set up a physical border between Ulster & the Irish Republic. End of. It's not rocket science.

@whynot5443 There have been several epidemic viruses over the last 100 years - NONE have spread with the rapidity globally as this. I don't think it's sensible to totally end lock-down until there is a vaccine, certainly not if it mutates into a more lethal strain.

@whynot5443 I'm not sure the 2nd strain of the 1918 Influenza pandemic primarily killed people who before it appeared were "very ill crowded together in hospitals"? It put them into the hospitals where they died of it in their 10's of millions globally. Do you think if that is allowed to happen again the economy is going to be in a good state whilst it's going on?

@whynot5443 If things are so much better now how has this virus spread around the world like world like wildfire, as fast as its predecessor did in 1918? It may not be the same virus as the 1918 one, but we haven't had one behave like this since that one, does that not give you pause for thought? If it does become as bad as that by letting it rip, how much economic damage do you think that will cause? Economies can be rebuilt, lost lives can't.

@whynot5443 The reason for the lock-down tactic is to break the transmission cycle, social distancing & public health service announcements about hygiene proved ineffective when they were tried on their own, but the lock-down has been effective in breaking it in all countries. Economies can be rebuilt, lives lost can't, & once again, if you let this virus rip thru the population the economy will be wrecked by it also. Any short-term economic hit can be covered by the Treasury using emergency financial powers.
