O'Brien's right for once, too many small & medium sized businesses pay their employees as little as they possibly can, regardless of profits. It provides zero incentive for workers when they're treated like that to invest themselves in any way in the success of the company. Treat people with respect & they generally return it, treat them with meanness & you get no commitment from them, & rightly so. Rampant grab all you can get American-style Capitalism is as bad in many ways as militant economic Socialism.

David Ward I didn't say workers didn't pull their weight, but they do no more than the bare minimum to fulfill that requirement when they have no incentive linked to the company's success, & they're out the door at 5 on the dot. Non-owner managers are rewarded for company success on an incentive basis, why does the same logic not apply to the rest of the employees, other than firms' management doesn't value them as staff in the same way?
