@melodiousramblings8470 Because the electoral college gives smaller states a voice. Think about this. In theory you could lose every single state and win California big and become president. How fair would that be for the rest of the country?

@melodiousramblings8470 It's completely accurate. If you lose 49 states but the vote stays fairly close and you win California big you could become president with the popular vote. It would give California too much power. The electoral college forces candidates to campaign throughout the whole country. No presidential candidates would ever again campaign in small states.
