Let's take Australia for example. $250 per week for someone who isn't working from the government, free healthcare/ambulance/surgery/hospital for any injuries (obviously the Gov doesn't pay for cosmetic surgery), minimum wage around $17ph etc. So their economy should be terrible, right? The strongest economic growth in the OECD for last 20 years, the ONLY country in the OECD to avoid recession during the GFC, and one of only 3 counties in the world with a AAA Credit Rating.

In places like Bangkok, Barcelona or Sydney - the VAST majority of travellers I've met are North Europeans, they can afford to holiday and party. I've met fuck all Americans... And that funny considering the population of those European countries. How many of your American friends have been on round the world trips?

  8.  @jaymeeduhh  I don't really understand the question. But if you're not working for whatever reason (in between jobs, or studying etc) you get 'Centerlink allowance' until you find a full time job.

  10. @john doe. It's indefinite. There are some offenses that will have your payments cancelled, like if they find out you're not fullfilling the obligation to search for 10 jobs per fortnight, or if you secretly have a job and they audit your bank records. But some people do live off it forever - mostly drug addicts/people with mental health problems. I think it's good there's no time frame for the payments, because then they would resort to crimes otherwise.
