  1. Tim's comparison with science and Galileo is way off, though. This situation involves "intellectuals", not observable scientific facts. And it was the church which condemned Galileo to house arrest, not scientific peers.

  3.  @happyhammer1 . Saudi Arabia certainly isn't a "state run economy", they have "state intervention", and many industries are nationalised. Hell, even Iran has a competitive internal economy. Regardless, you're missing a massive chunk of the political spectrum - social conservatism.
