The 5.6 is bullet proof. Watch the manifolds (cracks), engine mounts, pinion and axle seals, heater control valve, leak from the thermostat housing, interior plastics and HVAC actuators. Nissan Master Tech for 4 years.

The C5 Z06 is the bargain of the century. I see them in the mid $20k's all the time. Replace that worn out chin spoiler. It makes a difference in cooling. You guys mentioned fuel economy... LegitStreetCars tuned a manual C5 for lean burn cruising and got 40mpg. That's an economy car that has 350hp.

Friend of mine had the Dakota 5.9 R/T. He traded it in when Dodge came out with the SRT-10. He had an '06 2 door with the manual trans. He swore it was faster than my FBO '06 350Z. So we raced them. He was pulling on me until the corner at the end of the straight. LOL. We had some fun. That 5.9 R/T probably smells because it has no cats. Probably why it's at the auction. It got traded in and couldn't be sold with no cats. I really wish you would add what they sold for to these auction videos.

Diesel and a manual. All trucks should have this option.

A lot of the click bait YT channels (I'm looking at you Ray and Zach), have been yelling "the sky is falling" for two years, but retail rices aren't reflecting the drop in wholesale values. Dealers are still trying to get all the money for cars they overpaid for.

Best way to learn how to drive a stick is by yourself. My father tried to teach me (back in '89) and I kept stalling. Him yelling at me, "More throttle! Less throttle! Let the clutch out! Not that fast!", etc... just frustrated me. I ended up teaching myself in my driveway.
22
My '97 WS6 had Hotchkis springs and swaybars, Bilstein shocks/struts and Brembo 14" brakes. Ran the Gold Rush open road race and was stable for miles at 150mph.
21
@williamegler8771 What's the rev limit on most econoboxes? Not 9k. How hard do they get driven on a daily basis?
18
I'm gonna start by saying Toby is a great tech and seems like a great guy. However, he's not an LT1 expert. It's easy to become one though. @2:30... Nope, just a throttle body. Probably a 52mm. @13:15... The water pump isn't belt driven, it's driven off the timing chain. There was never a belt there. It's ribbed for one because GM used an off the shelf part from a different GM engine. @14:00... In the future, place the lift arms on those plastic pads just forward of where the lift am is now. That's the "lift pad".
16
I put 500k on my Nissan Hardbody SE-V6 by changing the oil every 3k. You don't need expensive oil or filters, just need frequent changes. I use Castrol GTX non-synthetic and cheap Fram filters. I also do all the maintenance religiously... fluids, timing belt, clutch, etc... I've never had the oil pan or valve covers off. Everything works, including the A/C.
15
You can fix the hatch rattle in the T/A. Replace the screw in bumpers.
15
@bobdylan6773 Found the Hobit!
15
It was too slow BEFORE the big tires. It's extra slow now.
14
There's a reason why excellent condition Samurai's sell for the same price as new.
12
The Ultra wasn't very floaty. Probably just blown shocks.
10
I'd like to see the actual estimate. I'm curious why it's so high. I'm guessing your head wasn't rebuilt and he actually bought a brand new head from Toyota. That would explain the high price.
10
The 1990 ZR-1 is on my very short attainable dream cars list. I have a very long "I'll never be able to afford" dream car list as well, but I might actually buy one of these some day. I want the 1990 because it's a one year car. It has the pre-facelift front end with the convex ZR-1 only rear end. IMO, the LT5 is THE Chevy 350 engine to own. Developed by Lotus, built by Mercury Marine.

The SRT-6 was actually pretty cool. Just wish Mercedes had a manual that fit the supercharged engine. BTW, those styling features on the hood are called "scallops". You probably know that, the word just escaped you at the time. Same thing happens to me.
9
My Panther of choice is the Marauder with the 32V 4.6. Friend of mine had a supercharged one. That thing was fast when you wanted and a boat when you wanted to cruise. @5:25... Ford built a longer wheelbase Panther called the Lincoln Town Car "L". That's the one for rear seat legroom.
7
My Father bought an '87 brand new in '86. I thought that car was the pinnacle back then. I was 13.
6
I will own a C6 Z06 eventually. I love the big 427 NA engine. Everyone complains about the plastic interiors and the shared parts, but without them, the car would've been much more expensive. Chevy remedied this (and raised the price) in the C7 and C8 with the available all leather 3LZ packages. You can pay almost $200k for a fully optioned C8 Z06. @12:55... Actually, you'll find it down by your left foot. Despite having this manual latch, people still manage to get locked in their cars if the battery dies. These are people that don't know that cars come with a book in the glove box that explains how to use the features in their cars.

IMO, Their lack of torque makes them not so great street cars. That being said, I've built two into SCCA championship winning race cars for Steve Zink. We also built one for his daughter, Nikki. He's actually set a few lap records for the class faster than what he's actually in. Their high revving nature makes them great track cars. They can hold a gear longer which means you don't have to upshift mid-corner, helping with stability. I wouldn't mind owning an R3 version.
6
@sandervanderkammen9230 RX8 is not a sedan.
6
I like the SSR, but prefer the Trailblazer SS. Same drivetrain, more room and not much more weight. The SSR is a bit heavier than it looks. I had a RWD TBSS with 400whp and loved it. The SSR is what the Prowler should have been. Andrey, there was one other convertible truck... the Dodge Dakota. Nice ones are hard to find though as most were daily driven and used like trucks. Also, if you're really looking for one, a dealer here in Vegas, Baja Motors, has 3 for sale. They have a 2006 with 47k miles and the 3SS pkg. It's and auto though and has 47k miles. It's overpriced at $35k, but you might be able to negotiate.
6
It's a decent enough car, but for about the same money, I'd rather a Panther based car. The first gen was much more popular because it was the first "jellybean" car. It was a new design language that nobody else had. Because of the Taurus, the next generation Camry got rounder. My step-mother had one of the very first Tauruses sold in Massachusetts. It was an LX with every option. I loved it.
6
@martinsvensson6884 The T56 is a double overdrive, so it's very high. Works great with a high torque V8
6
@robertmisiuk7137 Yep. We used to charge about $3k at the dealer for the job. That was 10 years ago. Cheaper to buy Doug Thorley headers and aftermarket cats like Magnaflows. Never put cheap aftermarket cats on a Nissan. You'll get a 420 or 430 code. Nissans don't like them.
6
@KiyaWarrior Less than a dozen known issues is not "hundreds".
6
What year is the FR-S? Never mentioned it. Former Nissan dealer tech here... The M35x just needs cam and crank position sensors. Very common failure and it causes the VDC and Slip lights to come on and puts the am in limp mode. Those Titans are unkillable. The clunking is almost certainly the motor mounts or the swaybar bushings. Both are common and cause clunking.
5
Yep. The auto cars had a 4 port engine, the manuals had 6 ports.
5
@6:20... That's not where the front seat was when you were driving. Put the front seat in a position for anyone over 5' 9" and the back seat passengers better be double amputees and there's zero leg room. @10:30... You can use a Sohn adapter or you can do like we do in the race cars and run premix in your gas, just like a 2-stroke engine. We eliminate the oil injection completely. This allows us to control the oil ratio.
5
I regret not buying that '99 back in '01. Guy wanted $29k for it. 4x4 club cab with a manual, rear locker, 650HP and 1200Lb Ft.
5
The AWD in these cars is a big reason they're so quick. My buddy had an RS and he regularly embarrassed me in my Caliber SRT-4 with 400whp. Brenden... That RS is NOT stock. It's got a Cobb intake, exhaust and it sounds like it's got a catless downpipe. Probably tuned, too, if it has those bolt-ons. Ford didn't really sell many RS's here because they didn't bring the 2-door everybody wanted. We wanted the Euro RS, not just anything with an RS badge on it. Booooo... No head to head drag race. You need a buddy to film with.
5
Same with my '97 WS6. Put it in 6th and cruise at 70 on the highway. Even with a 3.73 Moser 12 bolt rear, I still got 30mpg on the highway.
5
They're supposed to consume oil. The engine actually has oil injectors. Perhaps he should have read the owner's manual.
5
I mentioned in the fleet video that I've got an '05 JCW R52, with 207hp, Sport Chrono and a manual trans. I like it, but it's a good thing I'm an ASE Master Tech. Keeps popping check engine lights that I'm constantly chasing. Mostly emissions related (vacuum/boost leaks). The only other problem is that the left top pin needs to be "guided" into it's hole or it misses. Picked it up for $5k with an oil leak. Was just the o-ring on the crank sensor. I'm surprised you didn't mention the JCW package. It was a pretty rare dealer installed $5k option. It even included a new cylinder head. If you're ever in Vegas and wanna check it out...
5
@solocamo3654 Well yeah, a newer car might beat it. A Miata of the same year won't. Even track prepped. If they bring the rotary back, it'll dominate on the track again.
5
@palebeachbum Seriously? They have oil injectors. These injector spray oil into the combustion chamber. If you're gonna comment, make sure you know something about the car you're commenting on.
5
@williamegler8771 It is. It's the nature of the engine. It make NO torque down low, so it spends most of it's life in the upper rev range. You've obviously never driven one. They don't just want to be revved, they demand it. It redlines at 9k.
5
It's my only car. We don't all need SUV's.
4
@sandervanderkammen9230 By what definition? It's either a coupe or a 2+2.
4
@sandervanderkammen9230 Your definition isn't THE definition.
4
@sandervanderkammen9230 You should tell BMW and Mercedes, who've been selling 4 door coupes for over a decade.
4
@sandervanderkammen9230 Direct quote from Mercedes website, "Mercedes-Benz luxury coupes are designed to invigorate and inspire. Whether it’s a 2-door or 4-door, every model offers premium styling and technology, as well as an AMG variant for an added burst of power. From the sleek CLA to the fearless GT, they’re perfectly tailored, seductively shaped and supremely appointed. The result is a selection of coupes that turn heads as well as they turn corners." I'll take their word over yours.
4
You guys stole that WS6. Here in Vegas, LT1 WS6's are selling for $10k+. LS1 WS6's sell for over $20k. My '97 WS6 used to smoke C5 LS1 'Vettes. Brenden, if you decide to sell the T/A, let me know. ;)
4
12 valve with a manual, FTW. Aesthetically, nothing beats the late 80's W-Series trucks. I love diesel noise. I had an '18 F150 diesel and even with an intake and a 4" exhaust, it sounded like a Carolla. That's gone now. Looking for a 12V manual.
4
The C6 has the 427, not the C5. You're not getting a C6 Z06 for $20k without major problems. They're in the $30's. You can get a C5 Z06 with the 5.7L LS6 for mid $20k's
4
Brenden, when you tried to go $2850 on the Acura, did they refuse the 1/2 bid?
4
@coop4274 Not in the driver's seat. I'm 6' 3". I'm not comfortable in a C5, but fit fine in a C6.
4
@bldontmatter5319 Performance cars are built to go fast, not last long. Like you said, built for the application.
