  1. Legit Street Cars tuned his manual C5 to get 400 crank HP and 40 mpg. He tuned it to run 17:1 afr a load load cruise. My '97 T/A manual got 27 mpg with 3.73's on the highway and it made 400 whp. My '08 Mustang GT got 32 mpg with a manual and 3.31's. Why? the massive low end torque and numerically low gearing in overdrive (the T/A had a double overdrive) allow the car to cruise along at 1700mpg. They're also aerodynamic and lightweight, compared to modern vehicles. Compare this to my 200 HP Mini Cooper S. I get about 27 mpg on the highway. Even in 6th, I'm running 3k rpm on the highway. That burns a lot of fuel.
