  1. Most people in the private sector have 401k's now, but they used to have pensions. Why don't they have pensions anymore? Because they're expensive, and that means less money for shareholders. You'll notice that if you compare a graph of percentage of companies that are privately owned to a graph of percentage of companies that offer pensions, they match. As private companies have gone public, pensions have disappeared.

  2. What this story completely ignores is that most people in public employee unions don't get to collect Social Security like the rest of the population. That's why they're so pissed off about this. Imagine if when you retired, someone told you you're not going to get your social Security despite the fact you've been paying into it for 40 years. You'd be pretty pissed off too.

  3. Milton Friedman was an asshole. He's the reason the stock market is trading at 30k+ while we have greater poverty than we've had since the Great Depression. He's the one responsible for corporations putting shareholders before customers, employees and quality control. It was his idea to tie executive pay to share price.

  5. The reason ethanol is bad can be summed up in one sentence. Ethanol is bad because it takes more BTU's to produce a gallon than what is contained in that gallon.
