S&P 500 needs to crash. Corporations have been profiting by cost cutting for years. You can only merge/acquire to reduce overlap so much. You can only force your employees to prop up your profits for so long. They've been holding down wages, increasing employee health insurance contributions, reducing retirement benefits, and laying off employees for as long as they can. It's to the point where the employees are pushing back. Profit growth can no longer come from cost cutting. It's time for a crash to force a reduction in profit margins.

@R3tr0v1ru5 No, it isn't. Cutting costs results in inferior products, which is NOT good for the consumer. If a product is 25% cheaper but lasts 1/2 as long, the price has effectively increased. It also results in unhappy employees with high turnover, not to mention potential supply chain issues of overseas production, made worse by "just in time" inventory systems. You're correct in that we're experiencing what that's like now. Not to mention the fact that your comment incorrectly assumes that rising costs or cutting costs are the only two options. There's a third option... Keeping costs and profits right where they're at. It wasn't until Milton Friedman came along that corporations decided they needed "profit growth" every quarter.
