Ìt was determined by research, that the long term damage done to children of abuse, was not because of the abuser but by the perceived protector, who not only didn't protect them, but blamed them for being victims. It's a lifetime agony wh can be calmed but will never be resolved. Often, when they least expect it, the pain comes roaring back. It seems that the Royal family members all have a lot to deal with and very little chance to feel safe around anyone, including each other. I think Elizabeth understood this best and tried to keep her life and family as private as possible for as long as she could.
