Americans in Orlando, often from a local homeless shelter, used to stand near the library for pick up for day labor. Few were ever lucky. There was never much work for them.

Inflation was high in the 80s. Also the oil industry crashed. Houston went from paradise for all to a mass exodus of workers.

Theo, of course, ppl do anything to survive, plus you aren't dealing w ppl of similar backgrounds or values. My Cuban friends who came back in the 60s live by fake it till you make it. They came to immigration and said in Cuba they owned a restaurant or car dealership, or taught at a university and were given those businesses and jobs. They allowed themselves to be considered refugees rather than immigrants to get better treatment. It worked very well. They also stood together and helped their own, a novelty in the US. When Cubans were crossing into the states w the early invaders, they didn't have to worry about standing in lines, Cubans in the states went down and got them, even though they didn't know them. Same as with the Mariels. While in black neighborhoods ppl war w their own and white ppl are expected to manage on their own, even looked down on for needing help.

Jobs have been disappearing since the boomer generation and they were the well-educated ppl. What brainiac thought America would profit by bringing in millions of unskilled laborers? Y'all have only added millions more homeless and more crime to the streets.

@Corey Slockbower no, hon. It's always been the big lie. You were told about the one in a million who won the jackpot ɓc all the right things happened at the right time. Once long, long ago there was a chance that, bc there were so few ppl and the ones who were here were pretty special themselves, that there was a fair chance that you did better than you did where you started out, but that was then. There will always be the inspirational stories of the few who made good. And you have as much chance coming to the US and being happy, fulfilled, grateful, and wealthy as the multi million dollar actors and sports figures and investors, compared w the billions who just survive. There is no fairy godmother and you aren't god.
