I think your characterization of China is unfair. China only clamped down on information before they knew what they were dealing with and they were trying to avoid the kind of panic that would have sent everyone in Wuhan fleeing to other parts of the country, like what happened in Italy. Ninety-nine times out of a hundred that's the right move. This time it may or may not have been. We'll never know if telling the people of Wuhan of the presence of a possible epidemic would have resulted in fewer or more cases. Once the authorities were sure of the situation they took pretty aggressive measures to lock it down which almost certainly saved many lives. Also, the mobilization of resources to build facilities and equipment in short order was remarkable and that too saved many lives.

Jo Black The CCP losing control would be disastrous for the people of China and the people of China are well aware of that fact. The criticism about the conspiracy theory blaming the U.S. for planting the virus is warranted though. Nobody should be floating conspiracy theories right now. It's not helpful in the least.
