  1. That's not the Chinese business model. That's the model of any country that needs to move out of the third world and into the first. Industrial espionage provides so much better an investment return than cutting edge R&D that any country behind the technological curve that doesn't employ such a tactic is grossly negligent. China's now approaching that technologically advanced state where there's not much left to steal and their cranking up their R&D budgets because, at this point, that's the only way forward. They'll find that other countries are going to be stealing from them and they'll get their knickers in the same twist that the U.S., Europe, Japan and Korea have gotten theirs into soon enough.

  5. There is no normal. China didn't win anything, they suffered a lot at the hands of this disease, but they probably will come out of this mess as well off as anybody.

  6. They may or may not be right, but they're right enough. Fortunately for China, what their haters believe ultimately won't matter. They're doing what they can for themselves and for the rest of the world. Some will accept it, others won't. Time marches on.
