MrBanousos the term inalienable rights refers to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness spelled out in the Declaration of Independence, not the Constitution. The Constitution is a document describing how the government should be organized and maintained and what limits the government is not permitted to exceed in its operation. The first ten amendments, usually referred to as the Bill of Rights, sets out protections from actions by the government, some of which have no spelled out avenue of exception and others that have a high bar of alienation, but even "life, liberty, or property," are only protected in the absence of "due process of law" according to the Fifth Amendment. A number of later amendments protect the heretofore alienated right of previously disenfranchised citizens to vote: The Fifteenth Amendment by prohibiting any government from denying voting rights of citizens based on "race, color, or previous condition of servitude.", the Nineteenth Amendment enforces the same prohibition based "on account of sex.", the Twenty-Fourth based on "failure to pay any poll tax or other tax.", and the Twenty-Sixth based "on account of age." for those "18 years of age or older".
