The Russians are rotating, but yeah, Putin may have trapped himself a bit with his declaration that he won't be using conscripts in battle.

@nehronghamil4352 But not on the front lines, presumably.

I'm not sure how much more land the Russian army is intending on taking. I think it's likely that Russia is hoping to keep pressure on the Ukrainian government to commit to staying out of NATO and to recognizing Crimean annexation and Donbass independence. Russia has established an overland connection to Crimea and they've connected Crimea to the Dnieper River which one would think secures the water supply to the peninsula. I suspect they'll probably try to encircle Ukraine's western armies but I don't know that their objectives go beyond that. They might. It's possible that the Russian government wants to take all of Ukraine, but I doubt it.

@AEB1066 I'm not sure you are correct in your assessment. I'm not sure you are wrong either, but Russia is not flattening the country, which they could. They're putzing around at the edges of the cities just keeping steady pressure. If their goal is as you stated then they are not using their resources very effectively. They have control of the air and enough mobile armor and artillery to run across the country in formation destroying everything they come in contact with. While that would definitely test their logistical support it shouldn't be that difficult to execute in a battlefield that borders their own country.

War is slow. Think Syria.

@Ewig_Luftenglanz I completely agree regarding new conscripts, but conscripts currently on the payroll should have some relevant training already. You are right about it likely being very unpopular, but so is losing a war.
