@MrSpecialhacker They're clearly not comparable, but neither were the United States and North Vietnam. There are a lot of variables, many of them political.

@dylanmorris7946 That is true. So, why didn't the U.S. steamroll into North Vietnam? or for that matter, Syria? because of politics. The same might or might not occur in Iran. There are political reasons not to go all out, especially if Iranian resistance proves to be united and effective or if Russia or China starts parking planes in Iranian airbases.

@dylanmorris7946 A few planes could change the war if it meant that U.S. military felt it imprudent to attack those airfields with Russian or Chinese assets present because that could mean an escalation of participation. Fighting such a war without international support (likely with international condemnation), no formidable allies, no land access, on the other side of the world,… Could the U.S. do it? yes, if the U.S. wanted to badly enough it could do it. In the real world would the United States have the will to see the project through? I don't know. It's not worth it. There's no good foreseeable outcome.
