  3.  @voltagedrop5899  The PLAN is not a joke. It is probably the second most capable navy in the world. It is nowhere near a match for the U.S. Navy now but over time it will very likely close the gap. If the United States flooded troops into the eastern side of the island than it could probably keep the PLA at bay at this time. The question is, does the United States want to keep Taiwan out of the PRC more than the PRC wants to bring it in because if the PRC bets the farm on military reunification then the cost of thwarting them will be brutal.

  4.  @lamb-mz2sd  You are absolutely correct. I was oversimplifying, but the broader question still stands, what's it all worth versus what's it gonna cost?

  5.  @Jagonath  It would probably be termed a liberation from American dominance. I agree that it wouldn't be an actual liberation. It would be a reconciliation though and I think that within a generation or two it would be totally accepted.
