  2.  @disillusionedrightest7313  Those mass-defecting will not have control of the hardware. Nor will they be nearly as well organized. Soldiers will obey orders, and sailors even more so because they're stuck on that ship and can't run away very easily. They may sympathize with one side or the other, but their not going to spontaneously start shooting their platoon members.
