@kristinagarland7026 It's in the same category as all the white people who have gotten welfare and didn't have to pay for it. In other words, it's totally irrelevant to the discussion. There's an obligation that we as a country aren't living up to. If you want us all to be deadbeats then keep arguing against it.

@superseamstersewingshow514 That's the thing though, it's not about targeting specific beneficiaries. Reparations are about our country's obligation to deliver delayed justice for the country's legalization of chattel slavery of, and later the systematic oppression of, black people and the damage inflicted on those slaves and their descendants. Certainly, as American institutions, they would contribute, but specific benefits of individual people or institutions under these regimes is not relevant for this particular subject. That's not to say that there shouldn't be a mechanism for pursuing such restitution, just that that would not be reparations.
