  1. I agree with the dude on the right. China's looking at a water supply problem, and if the countries downstream from China are going to get any water, then increasing the Chinese population is a terrible objective. If China (and the rest of the developed world) is going to have a population where there are so many elderly citizens as a percentage, then China will have to change the way resources are distributed. As firms mechanize, the profits from the change in production rates versus man hours will have to be either distributed to the elderly through forced higher wages to laborers responsible for the well-being of their elders, or directly to the elderly through government transfers (taxes and benefits). Fortunately for China, the government is strong enough to force firms to comply to policies that address the country's needs.
